it all began with community. three friends set out to chinatown, dc to build their restaurant in a neighborhood they believed in. they quickly became part of the community and have remained in chinatown for 12 years, helping the neighborhood thrive and watching it grow.
since the opening of the first matchbox restaurant 12 years ago, giving back to the community became a priority. each location strives to provide for local groups and actively participates in events to supply food, supplies and resources.
matchbox believes that in being active in communities and providing to the local neighborhoods, each one will become a better place to live.
for the past few years, matchboxfoodgroup has sponsored the Cystic Fibrosis Brewers ball. a unique, fun evening, the Brewers Ball pairs over 30 breweries with the area’s best restaurants and a live auction to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
matchbox has also passionately partnered with Our Military Kids throughout the years. providing support and events promotion, matchbox has demonstrated their commitment to helping the foundation fulfill its mission.
we believe in sustainability, so we constructed each of our restaurants from reused materials and restored the beauty of the buildings. the architecture was left intact and enhanced rather than torn apart.
our green initiatives span across every detail of our restaurants. it’s part of who we are.
